A Simple Approximation Algorithm for Computing Arrow-Debreu Prices

چکیده
We consider the Arrow-Debreu market with linear utilities in which there is a set G of divisible goods and a set B of buyers. Each buyer starts with an initial endowment of goods. The buyer’s utility function is a linearly separable function of the goods that the buyer purchases. We develop a simple and efficient algorithm for determining an approximate market equilibrium. Our algorithm finds an -approximate solution in O4n/ 4BG55 time, where n = B + G. The running time can be further improved to O4n/ 4m+B log B55 where m is the number of pairs 4i1 j5 such that buyer i has some utility for purchasing good j .

An Improved Approximation Scheme for Computing Arrow-Debreu Prices for the Linear Case
Recently, Jain, Mahdian and Saberi [5] had given a FPTAS for the problem of computing a market equilibrium in the Arrow-Debreu setting, when the utilities are linear functions. Their running time depended on the size of the numbers representing the utilities and endowments of the buyers. In this paper, we give a strongly polynomial time approximation scheme for this problem. Our algorithm build...
متن کاملAn Auction-Based Market Equilibrium Algorithm for a Production Model
We present an auction-based algorithm for computing market equilibrium prices in a production model, in which producers have a single linear production constraint, and consumers have linear utility functions. We provide algorithms for both the Fisher and Arrow-Debreu versions of the problem.
متن کاملAuction Algorithm for Production Models
We show an auction-based algorithm to compute market equilibrium prices in a production model, where consumers purchase items under separable nonlinear utility concave functions which satisfy W.G.S(Weak Gross Substitutes); producers produce items with multiple linear production constraints. Our algorithm differs from previous approaches in that the prices are allowed to both increase and decrea...
متن کاملA Market Test for the Positivity of Arrow-Debreu Prices
We derive tractable necessary and sufficient conditions for the absence of buy-and-hold arbitrage opportunities in a perfectly liquid, one period market. We formulate the positivity of Arrow-Debreu prices as a generalized moment problem to show that this no arbitrage condition is equivalent to the positive semidefiniteness of matrices formed by the market price of tradeable securities and their...
متن کاملNo. 2001-34 EQUILIBRIA WITHOUT THE SURVIVAL ASSUMPTION: A NON-STANDARD ANALYSIS APPROACH
It is well known that an equilibrium in the Arrow-Debreu model may fail to exist if a very restrictive condition called the survival assumption is not satis ed. We study two approaches that allow for the relaxation of this condition. Danilov and Sotskov (1980), and Florig (1998a) developed a concept of a generalized equilibrium based on a notion of hierarchic prices. Marakulin (1988, 1990) prop...
